A majority of my patients over the past 17 years have
had problems in the structure of their spines resulting
in mechanical dysfunction, and related pains and spasms
of the associated musculature. In the chiropractic
profession we specialize in the removal of spinal
mechanical dysfunction and discomfort with the skilled
application of manipulation, or what is commonly known
as an "adjustment". This premise of structure
and function as it relates to total health is the
passion of the chiropractor in his/her desire to ease
human ailment and suffering. For detailed information
on the adjustment, see the section on Chiropractic
in the FAQ.
As a practitioner concerned with balance and the role
of the muscular-skeletal system in its relationship
to "holding the adjustment", I have understood
and exploited the benefits of therapeutic massage
since the earliest days of my practice. We employ
a variety of massage techniques in conjunction with
other physical medicine therapies. For more information
on the benefits of massage therapy, see our
Massage Therapy page.
Staff therapist Natalie
De Surrey, C.M.T. is a graduate of The Soma Institute
National School Of Clinical Massage Therapy, and is
available M-F 9-6, and Sa 9-12 by appointment. Natalie
specializes in treating specific conditions related
to overuse, sports injuries, postural imbalances and
stress. First time clients are encouraged to book
at least a 45 minute appointment so that a complete
consultation and postural assessment will be possible.
Natalie also tutors students of massage at the Soma
Institute.
Acupuncture treatment is widely believed to be the
oldest of all healing techniques. Imbalances in the
flow of vital energies called "Chi" leads
to a dis-ease of its flow, creating associated health
problems. I employ needle, with or without moxa, non-needle,
and laser techniques as an integral part of my meridian
therapy. For more information on acupuncture's uses
and benefits, refer to the FAQ
.
Nutritional therapy is a way to rejuvinate injured
or sick tissues, detox what has been poisoned, or
to replenish what has been depleted from the body
by stress, environmental toxins or other means. I
give nutritional counseling on a individual basis
to my patients and often recommend supplements
and/or other drug-free therapies.
Meridian graphing is a modern technique used by acupuncturists
to determine the general circulation of Chi. This
helps to select the fewest yet most effective points.
The 2 most frequent techniques of point selection
in traditional meridian therapy is the "listening"
to the 12 meridian pulses, and the "tongue observation".
These 2 techniques are problematic in that they are
subjective in their findings, whereas the graph is
standardized. The meridian
graph allows a patient to see his/her graph, formulate
a treatment protocol, and see the improvements for
themselves on the graph as they occur. For more information
on acupuncture's uses and benefits, refer to the FAQ
.
What is Facial Toning? It is microcurrent rejuvenation
of the face. The accupoints of the face, the underlying
muscles and fascia are painlessly and safely stimulated
with microcurrent therapy. Stimulating accupoints
of the face sends energy into the muscles, tonifying
them which creates a 'lift' of the face. Stimulating
accupoints also has healing aspects, increasing blood
flow in the tissues, enhancing the metabolism of the
tissues and reversing the aging effects of stress.
V.B.T. is a total body solution to maintaining healthy
skin tone as well as being a cutting-edge therapy
for reducing the negative effects of stress. The benefits
of V.B.T. are:
- improves skin texture, coloration and tonality
- stimulates the skin's natural collagen and elastin
production
- improves acne
- promotes better metabolism
- can be used for same day of special occasions
- helps reduce puffiness, bags and sagging around
the eyes
- smooths and eliminates wrinkles
- lifts and opens drooping eyelids
- techniques can also be used to treat Bell's Palsy,
sinus congestion, headaches and T.M.J. problems
Therapeutic touch is a fast growing alternative treatment
to tension and migraine headaches. Cranio-sacral therapy
uses gentle touching and manipulation of the sutures
of the skull, as fixations there creates blockages
of the rhythmic pumping of cranial sacral fluid through
the meningeal membranes that house the cranium. This
form of touch-therapy is an alternative to the more
common use of over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs
and prescription pain killers.
